Candlelit Vigil Held to Remember the Victims of Domestic Violence

This week Emerald held a candlelight vigil to remember the victims of domestic violence.

Over 40 people attended the event, representing CentacareCQ staff along with community members, police officers, corrections staff and other teams.

The event saw the courtyard of the Central Highlands Regional Council offices in Emerald, bathed in purple light, now recognised as the official colour of the DV awareness campaign.

A video with some shocking statistic and stories that highlight the severity and reality of the domestic violence issues faced in Australia was played as a background to the vigil.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is so important in drawing attention to what is unfortunately still a widespread issue across Australia – with 11 deaths already attributed to it alone so far in 2021.
