PSA: Free Shingles Vaccination Program Ends in October

Currently anyone between the ages of 71 – 79 can get a shingles vaccination, for free, under a program which began in 2016.

As reported in The Senior newspaper, this program is being closed at the end of October 2021. From November 1st people wishing to have the vaccination will be required to pay for it, which in some cases can be as much as $200.

The Senior reports; “Shingles is a painful condition caused by a reactivation of the Chickenpox virus. The condition can lie dormant for years until triggered, usually as a result of a decline in immunity due to age or immunity-supressing medication”.

CentacareCQ wishes to advise clients between the ages of 71 – 79 who have not already had the vaccination to speak to their GP or health provider about the vaccination and their suitability for it, to protect themselves and avoid having to pay a premium for it after October 31st.
