Q&A with Les Bowman

CentacareCQ Community Care Services Team Leader

Q/ How long have you been at CentacareCQ for?

A/ Two years and four months

Q/ What was your role when you first began?

A/ Coordinator Home Maintenance Services. I applied for the position via Seek because  was working in the mining industry Drive in – Drive out (DIDO) and really wanted to be home and working for the community I live in.

Q/ Tell us what your role specialises in now?

A/ Community Care Services includes Home Yard and Maintenance, Transport, Individual Support and Groups/ Social Services across all sites. I am responsible for the Operational, Strategic and Budgeting management for the four business units.

Q/ What do you enjoy most about your role?

A/ As I have only been in the role for a few weeks, that is difficult to answer; however, I look forward to the interaction with my Coordinators of the business units and the staff on the ground around the sites.

Q/ When you’re not working, how do you spend your downtime?

A/ I play golf as much as I can at beautiful Bargara beach in Bundaberg. I have a mad fishing family and I own 5 acres of land with many different animals that keep my wife and my 2 adult children very busy.

Q/ If you could have dinner with three celebrities, who would you invite and why?

A/ 1. Will Smith – very practical down to earth funny man.

2. Ben Roberts-Smith Victoria Cross (VC) winner. I met him once whilst serving in Afghanistan and would love to ask him about life after services.

3. Hugh Jackman – great Australian and role model.

Q/ What is your signature dish to cook?

A/ Wood fired pizza in my hand made oven

Q/ What type of child were you growing up?

A/ Really happy and into sport and fishing with my two brothers, always outside and at the beaches around Bundaberg.
