Last month, CatholicCare joined the Zonta Club of Rockhampton for their annual ‘Say No to Violence Against Women’ breakfast event.

The event brought together frontline workers, advocates, and community members, all united in their support for victim survivors and commitment to ending gender-based violence across Central Queensland.

CatholicCare’s Domestic and Family Violence Services team were invited to speak at the breakfast.

Our team reflected on their frontline experiences and shared professional insights into the ongoing work to respond to and prevent domestic and family violence in our region.

Their contributions helped highlight both the challenges faced by victim survivors and the dedication of those working behind the scenes to support them.

Although held ahead of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign (25 November – 10 December), the event provided a meaningful space for reflection.

Throughout the morning, speakers reinforced two clear messages: violence is never acceptable and real change begins with awareness, action, and a united community.

Domestic and family violence continues to remain one of Central Queensland’s most urgent challenges.

We remain committed to advocating for change, leading with expertise and compassion, and working to ensure safe, accessible pathways for people seeking support.

But ending violence against women requires all of us.

When we stand together and work for change, we create safer homes, workplaces, and neighbourhoods for everyone.

One life lost is too many.
