Most Reverend Danny Meagher was announced as the 11th Bishop of Rockhampton by Pope Francis on 1st April 2026.
Born in West Wyalong, New South Wales, Bishop Danny was educated by the Jesuit Fathers at St Ignatius College, Riverview before studying economics and law at Sydney University.
After working for three years as a solicitor, Bishop Danny entered St Patrick’s Seminary in Sydney and was ordained a priest on 22 July 1995. He served in many Sydney Parishes and has also served as Director of Catechesis for World Youth Day, Director of Mission for CatholicCare, Director of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate, Administrator of the Cathedral at Broken Hill and Rector of the Good Shepherd Seminary. Bishop Danny was ordained an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Sydney on 8 December 2021.
Bishop Danny said he was humbled to be appointed by Pope Leo XIV as Bishop of the Diocese of Rockhampton, and he looked forward to faithfully serving the people of the Diocese as their Bishop.
