Bridging generations through joy and connection

CatholicCare’s Rockhampton social group recently enjoyed a delightful morning at Saint Joseph’s Primary School in Wandal.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted at the school gates by a small group of Year 6 students, who kindly guided our social group attendees through the school to meet the Year 3 students.

After settling in and introductions, students were excited to share their PowerPoint presentations about NAIDOC Week, which were displayed proudly on their laptops.

The creative spirit was in full bloom as students also demonstrated their artistic talents, drawing and painting beautiful Australian native flowers that were used to decorate the tables.

One of our social group attendees enjoyed making paper planes with some of the students, reminiscing about his own mischievous school days.

Throughout the session, students eagerly asked their special guests questions about their schooling experiences, sparking lively conversations, bridging the generational gap, and creating a wonderful atmosphere of mutual learning and respect.

Saint Joseph’s Primary School Teacher, Rheanna Starr, shared she was blown away by the authentic conversations and genuine joy the visit brought.

“This morning was an excellent example of community and collaboration,” she said.

“I explained to the Year 3 students that we learn to be good people when interacting, talking, listening and communicating with people.”

Ms Starr extended her thanks to the CatholicCare team for the great work and support being offered to members of the community.

Though our visit was brief, it was clear the morning ended with many meaningful connections made between all.

Thank you to Saint Joseph’s Primary School for once again playing such a gracious host and making the morning truly special. Our social group attendees enjoyed every moment of the visit, and appreciated your students’ creativity, technological knowledge and excellent manners.

We can’t wait to visit you again.
