Our Journey
CatholicCare Central Queensland began in 1974 as The Christian Family Centre, founded by Sister Anne Marie Kinnane and Father Frank Gilbert in Rockhampton.
Their vision was to create a responsive organisation that could deliver organised, compassionate, and holistic social services to meet local community needs. This vision is what set the foundation for what has grown into the vital community resource that we are today.
As our community’s needs grew and diversified, so did our organisation. We transitioned from The Christian Family Centre to Centacare, and eventually to CatholicCare Central Queensland, reflecting our broader mission anchored by Catholic social teachings.
Today, CatholicCare is recognised as the longest-running local social services agency in the region, with a robust network of services reaching from Mackay in the north to Bundaberg in the south, and out to Longreach in the central west.
Our Present
With a team of over 400 professionals, we are deeply embedded in the communities we serve, and work tirelessly to provide support where it’s needed most.
As the official social services agency of the Catholic Church in our region, CatholicCare is part of a national network of more than 30 Catholic care organisations across Australia.
