Emerald shines the light on Domestic and Family Violence
Posted on May 10th, 2018
MORE than 60 people gathered at the grounds of Central Highlands Regional Council in Emerald earlier this month to commemorate and remember those who had lost their lives as a result of domestic and family violence.
CentacareCQ Emerald, with the support of CHRC, Emerald Police, Department of Communities along with other supports, held the 2018 Domestic and Family Violence Vigil.
This year’s Vigil was a huge success with record numbers in attendance.
Central Highlands Regional Council counsellor Gail Nixon opened the ceremony with acknowledgement of country and a short speech on the impact that Domestic and Family Violence had on communities.
Father Raj provided the blessing, Sophie Phillis preformed “Black Roses” and Sophie’s student, Latia McCandless, preformed “This is Me”.
The event was followed by a light supper kindly donated by Roses and Beans.
This is the first event held for Domestic Violence month.
CentacareCQ Emerald will be holding more events throughout the month. Keep and eye out for up coming events.
