Primary Objective

The Home Maintenance Officer is responsible for supporting clients to remain living safely and independently in their homes by delivering subsidised and fee-for-service maintenance services. The role provides practical handyman support, conducts risk assessments, offers referrals where appropriate, and contributes to the overall viability and performance of the Home Maintenance Program. This position operates under general direction and supports the safety, dignity, and independence of clients through timely and effective property maintenance services.

As a member of the Community Care Home Maintenance Team, you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering general home maintenance and handyman services to eligible clients in line with program objectives;
  • Providing fee-for-service maintenance support to private clients, where appropriate;
  • Conducting on-site risk assessments of client homes and proposed works to ensure safety and compliance;
  • Offering information and referrals to clients or internal staff to support appropriate service delivery pathways;
  • Quoting for minor works in accordance with program requirements and occupational therapist input, where relevant;
  • Promoting the Home Maintenance service through professional engagement with clients and external stakeholders;
  • Ensuring all works are delivered in line with program funding requirements and quality standards;
  • Reporting hazards, incidents, or vehicle concerns in accordance with organisational procedures; and
  • Supporting the financial viability and sustainability of the Home Maintenance Program through accurate documentation and service delivery

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate III in Building and Construction; or
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in home maintenance, construction, or related field; and
  • Current C class driver’s license (QLD).

Core Competencies

  • High level of problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with capacity to work autonomously;
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan and complete home maintenance tasks across a range of residential environments;
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake risk assessments and implement safe work practices in client settings;
  • Competent level of carpentry and general repair skills suitable for home maintenance services;
  • Proficient level of skill in measuring, estimating and quoting minor works, including documentation;
  • Sound communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with clients, staff, and stakeholders;
  • Practical experience in computing skills, including mobile apps and data entry systems;
  • Sound organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities; and
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This position requires the completion of an Australian Federal Police check, an NDIS disability worker screening check, and attainment of a Blue Card for working with children, prior to commencement.

The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate entitlement to work in Australia, and to disclose any pre-existing injury or disease which may be adversely affected by undertaking the inherent requirements of the position.
