United against violence: Rockhampton’s ‘Say No to Violence’ Breakfast

On October 30, our Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Response team joined 100 community members at the Zonta Club of Rockhampton’s “Say No to Violence” breakfast at the Frenchville Sports Club. This annual event serves as a gathering for those committed to ending domestic and family violence.

Our team was there not only as attendees but as specialist supporters, ready to offer practical advice and guidance to anyone who required DFV assistance or services.

The breakfast event featured an inspiring line-up of speakers, each bringing a unique perspective on the journey toward a violence-free future:

  • Sherele Moody, founder of Australian Femicide Watch and the Red Heart Campaign, shared her personal journey and the experiences that fuel her dedication to this work.
  • Senior Sergeant Ben Wiltshire, Officer in Charge of the Capricornia District Vulnerable Persons Unit, provided insights from a law enforcement perspective.
  • Louise Hayes, from CQ Healthy Families, spoke about the role of creating respectful relationships and support in preventing violence.

Although our efforts to address domestic and family violence extend far beyond a single event, it was heartening to witness our community come together and reinforce a powerful message: domestic and family violence has no place in our society.

Eliminating domestic and family violence requires a collective, community-based response, and each of us can drive the change that’s urgently needed.

One life lost is too many.
